Fixing “Missing Assets” Errors When Uploading Your Project
Learn how to resolve missing image file errors when trying to place an order so your project can be printed without delay.
When you go to place an order, the Mimeo Photos extension verifies that all of your images are available in high resolution before sending the project to print. If it can’t locate the original files, you’ll see an error message like this:
"We were unable to obtain high resolution versions of these images. Sometimes this happens if the photo's original file has been removed from your Photos library, or if the photo was stored on an external hard drive or SD card that is no longer connected to your Mac. Please double-click a photo to open it in Photos to correct the problem."
This simply means the app cannot find some of the original image files used in your project. Here’s how you can resolve this and complete your order.
How to Fix Missing Assets
1. Check That Originals Are in Their Expected Locations
If you moved, renamed, or deleted folders on your Mac after adding images to your project, the app might not be able to locate them. Try restoring the photos to the exact folder they were in when you first added them.
If the images were on an external drive or USB, make sure that device is currently connected to your Mac.
2. Confirm All Images Are Inside Your Photos Library
Mimeo Photos relies on Apple Photos to manage your images. Make sure the pictures you’re using are actually inside your Apple Photos Library. If they’re missing, re-import them into Photos first.
3. Force a Fresh Download from iCloud
Sometimes a photo will appear in your Library but still only exist in iCloud. It needs to fully download to your Mac before printing.
To force a local download:
-
Open each affected image in the Apple Photos app.
-
Click Edit, make a tiny change (like slightly cropping or adjusting brightness), then click Done.
-
This triggers Photos to download the high-resolution version to your Mac.
4. Re-Add Images to Your Project
If you continue to see the error, try removing the problem images from your project and then adding them back in directly from your Photos Library. This reconnects the files and often resolves the issue.
5. Try Your Order Again
Once you’ve completed the above checks, go back through checkout to see if the error clears.
